After a very busy weekend, I was thrilled when I had time to work on my project. I made my final decision on which authors I would structure my paper around: Maria Bombal and Rosario Ferre. I completed my biography of my two authors and I realized they are very much alike, except for the fact they live in two different time periods. I still need to find a crediable website and I have read both of the short stories, but I have not contrasted the authors or the stories, yet. I am very upset that this is my last time, I will be able to blog: it has been an increidable expirence.

I have begun my first bibliography on Maria Brombal, because I am confident that I will use Brombal in my project, I was able to begin this part of the bibliography tonight. I am not completely sure which other author I will use; I am leaning towards Rosario Ferre, but I have not made a final decision. So, I was unable to begin in depth research on my second author. We must have a book, database, and website source for our paper and I do not have a website source yet, so I need to find a reliable website source. I have a book and a database source; however, I do not have a reliable website.

I have made the decision to write on two different authors for my project. Both authors will be women, so I will be able to compare and contrast their expirences and perspectives. After researching authors in a short stories book and on the Gale Group database, I have narrowed my search to three authors: Maria Brombal, Ana Vega, Rosario Ferre. Although all of these women are authors and grew up in Latin America, they have various expirences so their writings are both similar and different. I have done some research on each of the authors and I have their basic background information and I am currently reading their short stories. I have decided I will definitely use Maria Brombal as one of the authors, but I am still deciding between Ana Vega and Rosario Ferre. I have not had a chance to read an entire short story by Ana Vega, so my next step is to read “Cloud Cover Caribbean”. Once I decide on my two authors, I am planning on finishing my research on both authors, so I can write the bibliography.

I found Maria Luisa Bombal as a potential author, because I think her background is very interesting and her point of view will be different, since she is a woman. I did not read the comment from yesterday until now, so I will look at Ms. Mittler’s anthology book tomorrow. I will hopefully be able to find further works or research other women authors.

As a devote Google searcher, the new web evaluation guidelines were quite shocking. After I typed my author’s name into the search box, numerous web sites appeared on the screen. I decided to investigate the e-notes website. The first thing I looked for when I glanced over the article was the author. I soon found there was no name to be found; however, I searched the website more carefully and found an explanation. The creators of the website state they use multiple sources for their information and numerous workers write the articles; however, there were no names. The site is written for high school and college students, because the purpose of the website is to help students study for papers and exams, so the information content is geared towards teenagers and young adults. There is no way of telling whether the writer of the article is familiar with Maria Bombal. The writing is free of mistakes, which shows the writer is educated, but they may not be educated in this particular area. There is no bias in this article, because it is a more factual presentation of information and the website has nothing to gain from a biased article. The article has no indication of when it was posted, but the entire website was not created until 1998. The information is current, because the website was not created until recently. Although this was nine years ago, Maria Bombal died in 1980, so she has not accomplished anything, since the time the website was created. Maria Bombal’s works did not become well known until after her death, so the article could be missing important information. The links on the page are all connected to other pages on the same website. All of the links work, which shows the website is well kept and managed.

I will not use this website as a direct source for my project. I do not feel the website has any credible sources and the fact there are no cited author does not make the article credible. The writing is meant to be a summery, so the material is an overview, by a company that is more concerned with the quantity of articles, rather than the quality.
After searching through the library shelves, I was unable to find a author that I found interesting. I found a few short stories written by Jorge Luis Borges; however, I am looking for an author that I really do not know much about. I am planning on looking into a new book that Mara has to read some different stores from various authors. Throughout the day, I decided that I would like to find two authors to use in the project. I think it will be interesting to compare and contrast not only literary techniques, but subject matter and tone relevant to the authors’ different backgrounds.
